Karen, I am a fan of pork and beans. Way back in the day, before even my youth, a “Pork and Beaner” was a derogatory reference to a washed up boxer who would take part in contests and be paid with a plate of pork and beans. I wrote a blog post on the subject some couple of years ago. I think you made a better job of the cooking.

    Hi Conor,
What a fabulous story. I had no idea. To me, pork and beans conjures girl guide cookouts and skidoo trips to back country lakes where we’d make a fire and eat the beans right out of the can that we’d heated over the fire. I love that you shared this!
    Thank you my friend,
