I’ve got my first Calgary Stampede pancake breakfast all planned. I’ll be at the parade bright and early this Friday and am already looking forward to Spolumbo’s sausage and flapjacks fresh from the griddle that my friends Richard and Nora Seto (Stampede volunteers extraordinaire) will be whipping up for me. I’m going to need the fuel.
Later that day, at 7 p.m., I’ll be presenting a cooking demonstration at The Calgary Coop Stampede Kitchen Theatre. It’s the International Year of Pulses so my presentation will give cowboys a different take on campfire beans. My recipes will come from the A Spicy Touch cookbook I co-authored with Noorbanu Nimji. Should be fun. I’d love it if y’all came on down. There’ll be a tasty reward.

Calgary Food Tours has six different tours every week until November when we’ll go to three indoor tours weekly.
Canmore Food Tours is up and running every Saturday 11 – 3 p.m.
I’m just back from a few days in Edmonton and am pleased to say we’ve signed on some wonderful partners there and will have that website up and running very soon.
Thanks to the generousity of our Alberta BoostR campaign contributors we raised a record-setting $22,105.00 to help fund our expansion. We have 12 staff now and as always, we’re bursting with Alberta’s best food, fun and adventure. Come on out and join us sometime. Food Tours are a great way to savour it all.
Last October I had the chance to attend the first ever Global Food Tourism Conference in Chicago. My mentor Shane Kost of Food Tour Pros, and my good friend Jeremy Mitchell, CEO of EZTix, were the masterminds behind this gathering and like everything they do, it was first class and leading edge.
They were kind enough to include me in the video above and I shared that the conference taught me how to build the infrastructure I need to expand my business.
That was last October. I was serious.
We’ve changed our name to Alberta Food Tours Inc and will start year round tours in Calgary and expand to Canmore and Edmonton, Alberta this year.Check out the pre-sales of tours and the community building I’m doing for this initiative here.
Food tourism is good for Alberta’s economy because it creates jobs in our the food, tourism, agriculture and hospitality industries. It creates value for food in our culture and it garners attention for Alberta as a food destination.
The next Global Food Tourism Conference will be October 24 – 25, 2016 in Seattle, Washington. This year I’ll be there with my team!

I don’t normally talk about my business much on this blog but I’m going to now because it’s a huge part of my creative life and it’s about to get a whole lot bigger.
I founded Calgary Food Tours 10 years ago this month and I’ve intentionally grown my business very slowly for two reasons. I’m a momtrepreneur and needed to take baby steps to match my family’s growth and I think I was a bit ahead of the game when I started. Now my family is grown, Alberta’s food scene is ready to be on the world’s menu and I’m ready to take my business to the next level.
I’ve created a collaborative community of food lovers and food businesses in Calgary through Calgary Food Tours and now I’ve launched a crowd funding campaign so that we can build a broader community and become Alberta Food Tours. My friends Marion Willard and Aurélie Mahoudeau of Succulent Paris food tours are wonderful cooks who love to share their passion with visitors to their city. This post will highlight a day where I booked them for a private gourmet tour. We met for coffee, shopped on Rue de Levis near their home and then prepared a seasonal multi-course gastronomic meal
Cooking with Willard and Mahoudeau is a joyous occasion. Sitting down and sharing a meal together even more so. I hope that you’ll see that in the photos I’ll share here and that you’ll try some of the recipes as well. If they all seem a bit too much skip ahead to the next post where I share a ridiculously easy and fun Mug Cake that anyone can make and enjoy. It’s all good.
