Sweet and Spicy Pecans

pecans in a mason jar and on a baking tray

I love sweet and spicy pecans. I love them in salads, on a cheese board, or stuffed in a baked apple. They are super easy to make and keep well for months in an airtight container. Not that mine last that long!

Pro tip: These also make a yummy homemade hostess or Christmas gift. I hope they help you Savour It All. I know making them myself is going to save me money!

Sweet and Spicy Pecans

A little sweet from maple syrup and a little bite from a careful selection of spices make these pecans something I crave spring, summer, winter or fall. But especially, fall.

Ingredients

6 cups pecan halves

4 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground cardamom

1 teaspoon Chinese 5 Spice Powder (you can substitute nutmeg if you like but I like the bit of anise in the 5 spice powder)

½ teaspoon ground ginger

½ teaspoon ground cloves

⅔ cup maple syrup

1 teaspoon flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350℉
  2. Place the pecans in a large bowl, add the cinnamon, cardamom, Chinese 5 Spice Powder, ginger, and cloves and stir to coat all the nuts.
  3. Pour in the maple syrup and stir until coated again.
  4. Line two rimmed baking sheets with parchment and spread the pecans evenly, in a single layer,  between the two pans.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes, stirring the nuts every 5 minutes.
  6. Remove from the oven, sprinkle with the sea salt, and let cool on the baking sheet.
  7. Break the pecans apart and store in airtight containers.
