Avenue magazine has done a great job of enticing people to ignore January and get out on the town for some High Performance in this year’s rodeo of the arts. Read High Performance Rodeo 2015 | Avenue Calgary for their picks in this walloping cure for the Arctic Chills we’re all experiencing.
You can check out the whole High Performance Rodeo program here. It runs January 7 to February 1, 2015.
My friend Tonya Lailey works with Theatre Junction and is thrilled with their offering for the festival this year: Untitled Feminist Show by Young Jean Lee.pdf
Read on for the naked truth about this boundary pushing performance.

I’m not a huge theatre buff. I usually want to exit stage left and wait for the movie version to come out but Theatre Junction is staging a special matinee performance with a brunch formulated by Chef Kenny Kaechele in his Workshop Kitchen + Culture. Suddenly I’m having the debut of urges to go and see it for myself.
The special brunch and matinée performance of Untitled Feminist Show is on Sunday, January 18th from 11:30-2 p.m.
They’re calling it … NAKED BRUNCH.
Very clever. It will be a “clothed celebration” of the ideas of the play.
The play itself is performed by “six charismatic stars of the downtown New York theatre, dance, cabaret, and burlesque worlds” and is performed with an absence of words and clothes.
Nudity and food don’t always go together but in this case it should be anything but a soporific matinée. After all any people brave enough to go naked – for the sake of feminism, art or any other reason – in Calgary in January must be a pretty exciting bunch of performers.
This speaks to why they call it High Performance Rodeo. I’d like to see a bunch of cowboys do that…well, only if their un-entitled feminist cowboys!
